Target Audience
Basic Coding Course:
Registered Nurses, Licensed
practical Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants
(attendees must have clinical knowledge as this course will
build on existing clinical knowledge).
Emergency Department Coding Course: Nurses who have
attended a basic coding course or who have a working knowledge
of coding, Coders who have completed a coding course or who
have relevant experience
CPT Basics: Registered Nurses, Licensed

Coder/Auditor Program: ED managers, HIM directors who are
interested in developing or expanding an ED coder/auditor
program.
Course
Content
Kare-Med Coding courses are a fast paced, interactive sessions
designed to provide both basic and advanced concepts in
coding for nurses who have extensive experience in the
clinical setting. There are a variety of courses and
seminars that offer training to the nurses and managers.
Courses can be taken independently or in any combination.
The two one day seminars are designed to provide financial
reimbursement and revenue information to the ED or business
managers to improve the financial status of the Emergency
department.
Basic Coding Course: A specialized rapid paced 3 day
course for nurses to learn the basics of ICD-9 diagnosis
coding, CPT coding for hospitals and facilities. Basic
information to prepare for the CPC certification exam is
also provided.
CPT Basics: A one day basic CPT coding course designed
to provide the basic skills to understand CPT concepts with
an emphasis on how to use the CPT manual.
Advance Emergency Medicine Coding: An advanced two day
course for nurses or coders who have completed a basic
coding course or have experience in the coding field who
wants to gain more knowledge and skills in facility and
physician emergency medicine coding.
Strategies to Improve ED Reimbursement: A one day
advanced seminar designed to provide updated information to
the ED manager, HIM director, billing personnel, auditors or
coders related specifically to the hospital emergency
department with a particular emphasis on current APC billing
rules.
Implementing an ED Coder/Auditor Program: A specialized
program designed to provide information related to
developing or improving an ED coder/auditor program.
Best case practices are presented for comparison purposes.
